About

Moisand Fitzgerald Tamayo, LLC

A team of fee-only financial advisors committed to clear, unbiased financial guidance

What it means to be “A Sanctuary from the Noise®”

Personal finance can feel overwhelming these days. With so much information across platforms, it’s easy to get caught up and make decisions based on what you’re hearing instead of what’s right for you.

That’s where we come in. We’re investors, not speculators.  We manage investment portfolios but don’t “play the market,” try to time the market, or ever gamble with your money. We take the time to understand your unique situation and give you straightforward, personalized advice based on our years of experience and financial expertise. Our goal is to help you feel confident and in control, no matter what’s happening in the headlines.

Your Top Questions, Answered

What sets MFT apart?

Our mission is to be A Sanctuary From The Noise® for our clients. As fee-only financial advisors and full-time fiduciaries, we work solely for our clients, never for commissions or outside interests. We are true advocates, always acting in your best interest and never switching roles to become salespeople. We’re fully independent, 100% employee-owned, and backed by a formal written succession plan to preserve that independence for generations. At MFT, every advisor is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional – it’s our minimum standard. We stand by the quality of our team, and our firm is consistently recognized as one of the most highly acclaimed in the country.

Who will I be working with at the firm?

At our firm, you’re not just a client of one advisor, you’re a client of the entire team. We take a collaborative approach, so you benefit from the full expertise and resources of the firm. We’re large enough to offer deep expertise across disciplines, yet small enough to provide highly personalized service. Your advisory team will be tailored to your needs and typically includes a primary advisor, financial analyst, tax advisor, and client service manager. You’ll also have a co-advisor who supports the initial planning process and steps in when key issues arise or if your primary advisor is unavailable.

What are your fees?

Given the depth of our services and the caliber of our team, we’re confident our fees represent strong value, especially for families with $1 million or more in investable assets. We’re not the cheapest option, but you don’t want “cheap” when it comes to financial advice. Clients with over $2 million in investment assets under our management pay less than 1% per year. Assets above $2 million are billed at just 0.50% or less. “Investment assets” refer specifically to managed portfolios and do not include real estate, everyday banking accounts, or personal property like cars, jewelry, or furnishings.

What if I don’t have $1 million?

We are happy to speak with anyone who is referred to us by a client or trusted professional or is regularly saving a substantial amount. If we are a good fit for such referred clients or substantial savers, the amount of current assets is usually not an issue. If we are not a good fit, we will do our best to get you pointed in a good direction.

How will you invest our money?

We are investors, not speculators. With discipline, patience, and a constant focus on tax efficiency, we build broadly diversified portfolios tailored to each client’s goals. We don’t “play” or try to time the market, or otherwise gamble with our clients’ money. Portfolio changes are made only when they serve the client’s best interest, not just to look busy. Because we work solely for our clients and not any investment company, we’re free to choose low-cost, best-in-class investments based entirely on merit.

How long does the initial planning process take?

The timing of the initial planning process varies based on your situation, but most clients have a solid handle on things within six to eight weeks. It’s important to remember, financial planning is an ongoing process designed to help you get and keep your finances in the best possible shape. Life changes, and when it does, we’re here to help you reassess. Because we know you and your plan, we can usually make thoughtful recommendations quickly and confidently.

What’s the difference between tax planning and tax advice?

Tax advice is more valuable and more accountable. Tax planning tends to be general, like “Consider a Roth conversion.” Tax advice is specific: “Convert $21,500 from your IRA to your Roth IRA this year.” The key difference is responsibility. If the IRS comes calling, a tax planner may point to a disclaimer: “XYZ Company does not provide tax advice.” In contrast, clients who engage us for tax advice have a team of CPAs and Enrolled Agents who will respond directly to the IRS on their behalf —no disclaimers, just support.
